A White Rhino... Endangered. The Rhino is a key element in the story. There are only about 20,000 Southern White Rhinoceroses left. The fate of Northern White Rhinoceros is even more dire. Only three of that subspecies are left and they are all in captivity. They live under 24 hour armed guard in Kenya at the Old Pejeta Conservancy. In addition to being a fun natured book, we hope that this book can bring awareness to the plight of Rhinos.

There it is, sliding out of the nostril, hanging off of the lower lip, the main ingredient of the recipe... Rhino Snot!

The Magic

I think I have a good story, but let me tell you... the art is what brings it to life. I love it! Again... right now I don't want to give too many spoilers for the story, but I do want to give you just a taste of the greatness of the artwork. FIYAH!!!!

What is this book about?

This book is semi-autobiographical. Actually, more autobiographical than semi. Most of it is pretty true. It came out of an experience of when my wife was training for a half marathon, and that left me with needing to make breakfast for the kids on Saturday mornings. I would tell the story to people, and enough of them said, I ought to write a book about it. I don't want to put too much in this post SPOILER ALERT, so I'll just post a few of my initial drafts, and some of my sketches (you see why I enlisted the help of my brother). But HEY don't sleep on my art skills... I did used to be in "art able" though when I was in elementary school. I made a great paper mache brontosaurus when I was in first grade.

So I decided to write a kids book. The first book I ever wrote was, A Tale of Three Cities - A History of the Londo-Parisian Tour. You could call it a mash up of Dickens’, ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ and Thucydides’, ‘History of the Peloponnesian War’. That was in the pre-blog era, so that book is still in notebook form. Actually, I typed it up a while ago, but I lost the floppy disk, I think. So I need to convert it to a blog. Anyway, you already got me off topic in my first paragraph... back to the kids book.

So as I was saying, I wrote a kids book. When it came time to find an illustrator, the first artist I had to call, YOU ALREADY KNOW... Trevdawev! My little brother, Trevor Lightsy. Fortunately, he said he was willing to do the artwork. So like when Macho Man Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan came together to form the Mega Powers, this is pretty much the same thing... The Genius and The Whundah Boy coming together to form the New Millennium Mega Powers as we become the undisputed champions of the literary world of children's books!
